Insulated Glass

Typical UsesUsed in homes or businesses to maintain more comfortable temperatures without having to keep the curtains closed all the time. These windows use two panes of glass instead of one. This creates an interlayer pocket of air within the structure of the window. There are options that improve the efficiency such as Low E and argon filled units.

Benefits: Efficiency, increases R value on your home and can lower utility costs due to better insulative properties.

Clear Glass

Typical Uses: Clear Glass is used for windows and creating insulating units and shelving, among other applications.

Benefits: Comes in 3/32 to ¾ inch thicknesses. It is formed using the float glass manufacturing process. Clear glass can be enhanced through additional fabrication processes for insulating capabilities, design enhancements and added strength.

Tinted Glass

Typical Uses: Can be used everywhere clear class is used including windows, doors, shelving, sneeze guards and other various applications.

Benefits: Tinted glass is used in order to eliminate glare or to add privacy in various applications.

Laminated Glass

Typical UsesThis is good security glass, as well as for car windshields to protect in the face of an accident. It also can be used as a structural glass and used in the construction of glass railings, glass floors, skylights, roofs, sunspaces, curtain walls, glass facades and more.

Benefits: If this glass breaks or has impact, the plastic interlayer material, polyvinyl butyral keeps glass in place should it break. The pieces are retained within the frame and minimize “fall off” after impact.

Tempered Glass

Typical Uses: Can be used in doors, side lights, inside shelves to increase the shelf load, inside car windows and for glass top tables.

Benefits: Tempering glass makes the glass approximately 2.5 times stronger, resulting in a greater impact resistance and durability. It is harder and more scratch-resistant than standard glass. If broken or damaged, it crumbles into “pebbles”, rather than sharp pieces.

Tempered Laminated Glass

Typical Uses: While laminated glass is used in the windshield, tempered laminated glass is also found in skylights, refrigerator shelves, oven doors, storm doors, shower doors and bathroom areas.

Benefits: Tempering laminated glass adds strength when you need the strength of tempered glass, but also want the added benefits of laminate.

Low Iron

Typical Uses: Used for aquariums, display cases, some windows and other applications where the very best clarity is desired.

Benefits: Low iron glass is the clearest glass on the market today. It is produced through a special process in which the iron particles are removed from the glass, thus removing the greenish tint that you see in regular glass. This is a premium upgrade from standard glass.

Restoration Glass

Typical UsesHistorical Societies and old buildings such as The White House, Mount Vernon and Monticello. Also, this glass is used to restore antique furniture to its original era.

Benefits: Restoration glass is great for restoring items such as antique pieces. It takes special care and expertise to bring something antique such as mirrors or windows back to their original state. Restoration glass closely reproduces the cylinder antique window glass in the 17th through early 20th centuries. It is the architect and designer’s first choice for replacement of broken or missing antique window glass.

Mirror Glass

Beveled Glass

Typical Uses: Used for adding contrast and depth to mirrors, doors and tabletops by adding a higher level of beautification to the edge of the glass.

Benefits: Beveled glass is cut to precision as per the size of the door or window opening. The beveled edge refracts light like a prism and creates a very interesting rainbow effect. It is made by grinding the edge of glass, creating a 1/2 inch to 2 inch bevel on one or both sides.

Plexiglass and Polycarbonate

Typical UsesPlexiglass and polycarbonate are used for a wide range of applications. As a transparent glass substitute, it is often used for automobile lenses, spectator protection in sports rinks, aircraft windows, lighthouses and lenses. Also used for storm panels and other custom applications.

Benefits: This glass has incredible optical clarity, durability, and has the ability to easily be fabricated and installed. The crystal clarity of acrylic makes it perfect for instances where you want to install a barrier, but don’t want to interrupt the line of sight. Chemically, it is the synthetic polymer of methyl methacrylate and comes in a variety of colors.

Bullet Resistant Glass

Typical Uses: It is a safety and security glass, and is trusted as a barrier for many different uses, from protecting your store-front from improvised projectiles, to protecting military and private vehicles and their passengers. It is also used in government buildings.

Benefits: Provides excellent safety and security protection in many settings. It is made by layering a polycarbonate material between pieces of ordinary glass in a process called lamination. This process creates a glass-like material that is thicker than normal glass for the best safety and security.

Typical Uses: Screens are used typically in the summer to allow fresh air to flow through and reduce the need for air conditioning. Storm panels are used to reduce the amount of heat lost by adding a second layer of protection from wind and cold temperatures.

Benefits: Adds insulation properties to single pane windows. Also eliminates glass breakage, protects the structural envelope, prevents injury, helps you prepare for severe storms and increases the value of your home.
